Food supplements and the change of season: we tell you everything

Écrit par Ecosystem Laboratoire - Publié le

The changing seasons are not easy on the body! Spring sees the appearance of pollen and allergies, autumn and its general drop in light levels causes a certain amount of fatigue and winter and its drop in temperature puts the immune system to the test. While a healthy, balanced and seasonal diet is still the best way to cope with the changes of season, food supplements give the body a natural boost.

Food supplements, natural allies for seasonal changes

The Ministry of Health and Prevention defines food supplements as "foodstuffs whose purpose is to supplement a normal diet and which constitute a concentrated source of nutrients or other substances with a nutritional or physiological effect". They are therefore not medicines, but products that supplement a balanced diet to strengthen the body. The aim of food supplements is to provide the human body with additional nutrients to help it cope with certain shocks and become more resistant. Food supplements do not have curative powers and are not intended to cure diseases, but they help the body to resist them.

Most of the time, they come in the form of capsules, ampoules or drinkable solutions and can contain different elements: plants, vitamins, minerals, etc. They can also simply be a way of helping the body to resist diseases. They can also simply be entirely natural products such as royal jelly, produced by bees.

Summer food supplements

Each season has its own adapted food supplements! In the summer, when the sun shines and temperatures rise, certain plants help you keep your tan longer, while others burn fat. To arrive at the beach with a slim figure, a green tea cure is often recommended. This drink, known for its draining and fat-burning effect, is also a great way to eliminate toxins in the body. On the other hand, to maintain a healthy complexion, we recommend turning to vegetables with a high concentration of carotene: carrots, of course, but also squash, sweet potatoes, grapefruit and tomatoes. These plants have a high concentration of carotenoids, which stimulate the production of melanin, the hormone responsible for skin pigmentation.

For the transitional seasons: autumn and spring

Autumn and spring are transitional seasons: temperatures and weather change abruptly, which affects the functioning of the body.

  • Autumn: Nutrients to keep you fit

After the summer, temperatures and light levels drop sharply, which comes as a shock to the human body, which has become accustomed to long hours in the sun. During this season, the challenge is to stay in shape and not to let the fatigue caused by these weather changes get to you. Among the food supplements most often recommended at this time of year is magnesium. This element helps to combat stress, but also fatigue and irritability. Similarly, vitamin C also helps to combat chronic fatigue. In addition to this cure to regain vitality, it is also possible to consume royal jelly. This strengthens the immune system at a time when it is weakened by falling temperatures.

  • In spring: food supplements to bring you out of hibernation

Spring is also a trying time for the body. With temperatures rising and pollens blooming, many people find themselves prone to chronic fatigue and allergies. Here again, vitamin C can be beneficial in regaining vitality and fighting allergies. It is also advisable to carry out a detoxification cure after the winter. Several food supplements seem to be indicated: desmodium activates metabolic functions and starts a real internal regeneration process, it is therefore a key ingredient for a detox, as well as black radish and sage, which are loaded with antioxidants, ideal for cleaning the liver. Finally, to purify oneself, it is also recommended to follow a cure of fennel and artichoke which prevent digestive disorders and have draining virtues.

Winter food supplements

Winter is the time of year when the immune system becomes most vulnerable. Fortunately, there are plants and natural remedies to help the body fight external attacks:

  • Cinnamon has powerful antioxidant and antiseptic properties. Cinnamon has powerful antioxidant and antiseptic properties. It protects white blood cells against oxidative stress and is also used to fight viral infections such as colds and flu.
  • Similarly, thyme protects the respiratory tract and is one of the most famous medicinal plants for its antiseptic properties. It is a very effective decongestant and cough suppressant. It therefore protects the body from infections such as colds or gastroenteritis.
  • Echinacea is also often recommended in winter to prevent respiratory infections.
  • Finally, products from the hive are also particularly beneficial in winter. Honey helps strengthen the immune system, while propolis has valuable antiseptic and regenerative properties.
